Crows feet, those annoying wrinkles on the sides of your eyes. Let’s learn more about them.
Here are ways to prevent crows feet:
1. Decrease sun exposure- use SPF.
2. Healthy diet- fresh fruit, vegetables, and healthy oils can protect the skin from damage by free radicals.
3. Exercise- this promotes the blood circulation which brings oxygen to the skin.
4. Use of sunglasses- sound simple right? But keeping the area around the eyes covered with sunscreen decreases the “squinting” which promotes the development of wrinkles.
5. No smoking- Smoking produces free radicals in the body which causes wrinkles to appear.
6. No tanning beds- Nothing needs to be said about this!
7. Using eye creams with collagen and antioxidants (Vit C)- this decreases the formation of wrinkles.
What to do if you already have crows feet:
1. Use that eye cream twice a day.
2. Primer, silicone-base- this “fills” the wrinkles and creates a smooth appearance.
3. Concealer/foundation- use these products “gently”. Heavy use of these products makes wrinkles more visible. And we do not want that.
4. Loose powder- Do NOT use this product on crows feet. It gets into the wrinkles and increases the appearance of them.
5. False eyelashes, shimmery eye shadow, dark liquid liners- Do NOT use these products because it draws attention to your eyes, which draws attention to your crows feet.
6. Retinol- applying this cream fights the signs of aging (wrinkles) because it stimulates the production of collagen.
7. Botox- this smooths out wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle contractions. This prevents the muscles from contracting, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles or even disappears the wrinkles.
8. Fillers- Radiesse and Sculptra. These fillers are directly injected into the crows feet which smoothen the wrinkles.
9. Microneedling- this removes the outer layer of the skin and promotes the production of collagen and new skin.
Takeaway: Crows feet are a normal part of aging. With that being said, there are ways to prevent/minimize their development and ways to treat them once you get them!
