Do you find it difficult to determine whether your skincare product is working for you? These items can be pricy and it is a commitment to use them daily. So how do we know that they are working for us? Well here are some things that you need to consider.
Understand that skincare products provide one of three things:
1. they prevent future damage to your skin, wrinkles, age spots/brown spots
2. they minimize the current wrinkles, age spots/brown spots you have now
3. they maintain your skin at its current situation
Now how to determine whether they are working. Let’s simplify it:
1. this one is a little difficult but think about it this way. When you are using the product, the quality of your skin stays healthy, glowing, smooth and young (this holds true to our younger group of patients), then it is effective. You are actually preventing your current quality of skin from aging/worsening.
2. while using the product, you are finding some improvements in your wrinkles, age spots/brown spots, then its effective. This is because you are actually seeing changes (improvements) to your skin. This one is the easiest to determine.
3. finally, you are using this product, and your skin is maintaining status quo. Well, if you are happy with your current skin, then this is considered effective as well. Think of it this way, your skin is staying status quo VS aging! I will take that all day long!
Some other things to consider:
1. Make sure that you give your skincare line a minimum of 4 weeks (preferably 6 weeks) time to determine the effectiveness.
2. Make sure that you are applying your skincare products correctly. Sometimes we “think” these products are not effective when really we are applying them incorrectly.
