When we think of Neurotoxins or Tox (this is the broad/generic term for Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau etc), we think of getting “rid” of those wrinkles. But what about Preventative Tox? What is this? Do I need this?
There has been talk about Preventative Tox; doing tox prior to the development of wrinkles to minimize the “chance” of getting wrinkles. Well…let’s think about this. Tox blocks the nerve signals from the muscles so they do not contract. This relaxes the facial muscles that causes wrinkles. So if you don’t have wrinkles, why do we need Preventative Tox? We don’t!
Now with that being said, once you “start” seeing wrinkles, you want to consider Tox. And this is why. As we age, we develop lines/wrinkles on our face. These lines/wrinkles are called Static or Dynamic lines. Dynamic lines/wrinkles means that the lines move. Static lines/wrinkles means that the lines do not move. The early stages of wrinkles are considered Dynamic lines. This is where tox works. If you do not treat those dynamic lines/wrinkles, they can turn into Static lines/wrinkles and tox will not work.
So do you need to worry about Preventative Tox, no. But you DO NEED to worry about your wrinkles becoming Static! Once those wrinkles become Static, you will have to consider options such as PDO threads or Medical Microneedling to soften those wrinkles. This isn’t a horrible thing, but it decreases your treatment options.
