Dehydration and sun exposure…..does it really matter? YES! Find out why

Let’s get back to some basics with this blog…….Sun Exposure and Dehydration. Sounds simple right? Well it’s not.

As I have continued my journey in healthcare, these two topics seem to get pushed under the rug. Yet they are the culprit of many disease processes (this includes aesthetic medicine). Today, we are applying it to aesthetics.

If you don’t want dry wrinkling skin with age spots/sun spots, the two basic ways to minimize this is intaking enough fluids with electrolytes and wearing sunscreen to minimize the damage to your skin. Now is water enough? Not necessarily. When we sweat we lose electrolytes (sodium, potassium etc). Unless the water is supplemented with electrolytes, you are not replenishing them. You can add these electrolytes to your every day water to fix this or drink items such as Body Armor, Liquid IV, Gatorade (watch out for the sugar intake) or any drink that contains these electrolytes. How do you know if they have these electrolytes? Look at the label. Learning how to read your ingredient label is important.

Second, wear sunscreen. It sounds simple yet so many people forget (or refuse) to do so. Check the label of your sunscreen to see how long it is effective. Some people assume you have 12-24 hour coverage when that may not be the case. There are sunscreens that recommend reapplication every 4-6 hours. Again, this is why it’s important to read the labels of the products you use.

At Higher Self Aesthetics, we explain these differences intimately to each of our patients in order to provide the best results. Every face is created different and that is why we CUSTOMIZE our treatment plans.

Hope you enjoyed your insight in aesthetic medicine with Higher Self Aesthetics
