Everyone has heard of Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro right? It’s the “quick fix” medication for weight loss? Well, that is not how this medication started. Originally, this class of medication was used to manage Diabetes. Then we found out that it is very effective for weight loss. This was a great finding but some of the side effects such as Ozempic face, the ashy skin that it can give aren’t that great. Remember, we do not know all the long term side effects. Yet there are still millions of people trying to access this medication. So what did compound pharmacies do? They took the “active ingredient” of these medications and have marketed it under Semaglutide and Tirzepatide injections. These medications are great “JUMP STARTS” to weight loss. They should not be intended to use for many years (at least not at this point). But as a 3-9 mo treatment plan to get your metabolism going, sure. As we advance our knowledge on the long term results of these medications, that may change.
